We want to begin by appreciating every one that made the girls coding workshop possible. @codenry, @elastic, @justcause, @childrenofgrace, @Reneisancerobotics @ArtsSec @maxiSoler. This wouldn’t have been possible without you.
The workshop was graced with 40 women that were eager to learn and to explore different aspects of programming, robotics and security.
20 girls came from an NGO that supports orphans that lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS and the rest came from schools and nearby communities.
We had a great day that was full exciting speakers and teachers who energized the girls and women. Some of our greatest highlights were when the girls asked questions like “how do we start coding? “How do robots work?” “How do we start a career in Tech?” Such questions blew our minds and were calling for more of such workshops in communities we live in. This also meant that none of these girls had come across such an opportunity to attend an event like this.
But our greatest highlight is how the girls got so much involved during all sessions which got us thinking that if all girls were given opportunities like this so many of them would be able to get ignited and come up with great ideas that would change the world.
By the end of the workshop the girls were eagerly waiting to hear when the next workshop would happen and that they couldn’t wait for the event, this made us scratch our heads more because we really want bring them more of these but resources wouldn’t allow us.
Our biggest challenges were time and luck of enough resources this workshop would be more effective if we had more time like run a 2days workshop and also have at least each girl on a computer which was not possible. But we are hopeful that with time we shall overcome our challenges.
We want to continue doing more of these in different communities and even have a bigger number but we can only do this if you are we us.
Thank you once more for all your support. We appreciate so much.
